A Note from Kathyby Kathy Foster Hart Families and Friends, The first week of school has been a huge success. Our building is full of smiling faces, new friends, high fives, laughter and students ready and eager to learn. Just as it should be! If your house is anything like mine, each day it seems to be a little harder for the kiddos to wake up early. Making the transition from summer to a regular school routine is not easy, but we appreciate all of your help in getting the kiddos to school on time. Tomorrow we will host our first Hart Beat of the year and you are all invited to attend! We will not be recognizing Leopards of the Week this time, but we have lots of fun in store for the students. Our Hart PTA Spirit Shop will be open during Hart Beat, so be sure to stop by and stock up on spirit wear for the new school year. Thank you for your continued partnership in making Hart such a special place for our students! Kathy :)

Upcoming Events and Hart Announcements
Heat Concerns: With the weather continuing to be so hot and dangerous to some, LISD has implemented special weather restrictions to keep our students safe. The guidelines are as follows: If the temperature is 95 degrees or greater, or if there is a heat alert, or an ozone alert in red or orange, we will not have recess or PE outside. The recess times obviously are different for each grade so there may be some opportunities for the earlier recesses to be outside for a shortened amount of time (10 minutes).
Report Card Information Meeting: September 1 @ 6:30 PM in the Leopard's Lair Parents from grades 1-3 are invited to join us for an overview of the LISD Elementary Standards Based Report Card. This year the report card will continue through 3rd grade and will be distributed every nine-weeks. Join us for an opportunity to learn more about how your child's progress will be communicated through the standards based reporting system.
New Year - Forms to be Updated It is important that each family follow the steps below to ensure that all online forms have been completed. These important forms allow each family to provide approval for field trips, designate emergency contacts, etc.

PTA Ice Cream Social
We hope you will be able to join us on September 15th at 6:15 for the PTA meeting and 6:30 for the Ice Cream Social in the Hart Cafeteria. Our staff members will be scooping the ice cream!
4th and 5th Grade Music Opportunities Hart 4th/5th Grade Choir is open to 4th and 5th grade students. There is not an audition for this choir. Rehearses one morning per week: 4th Grade: Tuesdays at 7:30 5th Grade: Wednesdays at 7:30
Lovejoy Children's Choir This is a district choir. Students must audition for this choir. This choir will rehearse at Lovejoy Elementary (gym) on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30.
Please read the detailed information about these choirs and turn in the forms if you child is interested in participating in either of these choirs. If you have any questions, please contact me at debbie_noble@lovejoyisd.net.
Abrakadoodle We will be hosting the Abrakadoodle Art Program again this year, beginning Wednesday, September 21st from 3:05 to 4:00. Please see the attached enrollment form for complete information.
Chess Club Our Chess Club will meet on campus on Mondays from 3:00-4:30 this year. Children from grades 1 to 5 who are interested in the game of chess can join. The Chess Club membership form is attached. For more information, email LeopardChess@gmail.com.
Support our Hart PTA Print out and take the attached letter to Kroger the next time you shop to participate in the Kroger Neighbor to Neighbor Program and support our wonderful Hart PTA!

Free & Reduced Meal Information
Building Lease Policy We are receiving inquiries about leasing the Hart facilities for next year. The district policy states: Facilities cannot be reserved for leasing until September of each year to allow campus staff the opportunity to set campus schedules. There will be no leasing during Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, Spring Break, or the month of August (except for long term leases). If you have a sports team and want to reserve the gym for next year, please make note that we will accept facilities requests after September 1, 2011. Thanks!
