*As a parent, are you always reminding your child to “do” something specific?
*Does your child need the benefit of structure in executing their responsibilities?
*How do I get my child to understand time management (for example: wake up/get dressed on time, finishing homework AND turning it in, etc.)?
Executive Skill Development in children is essential for preparing them for life. We are excited to share a 90-minute presentation with Colin Guare, contributing member to the Smart but Scattered—and Stalled book. Colin’s talk will be devoted primarily to practical, naturalistic ways for parents to support their child’s executive skill development. We will cover the overall approach, how to identify opportunities and troubleshooting. Colin will then contextualize these by walking the group through some examples. The final 30-45 min will be devoted to audience submitted scenarios and questions.
Target Audience: While valuable for any K-12 parent, the presentation will include extra emphasis on the late elementary, middle, & early high school (10-15) age range.
Join Us at Lovejoy Child Development Center in the Library at 6pm on March 4th.
Thank you to the campus PTOs at LHS, WSMS and SCIS for funding this program for our parents in the district.
Before the presentation, we encourage you to grab the book and read: Smart but Scattered--and Stalled: 10 Steps to Help Young Adults Use Their Executive Skills to Set Goals, Make a Plan, and Successfully Leave the Nest by Richard Guare, Colin Guare, and Peg Dawson. The authors offer several books with similar titles but with the focus of the book based on age: kids (4-13), teens (13-18) and young adults (18+). Choose the book that is age appropriate for your situation. While the books will have different references, the context will be similar in all books. We hope to see you on March 4th.
