Leopard Reminder: No school Friday, February 14 & Monday, February 17 for Teacher Planning Day & Presidents' Day! Enjoy the long weekend! #OneHeartOneLovejoy #NoSchool

Peyton Morgan, a 4th grader from Hart Elementary, recently submitted two of her poems for Art Meets Poetry, an event hosted by the Mockingbird Poetry Society in collaboration with the Art Club of McKinney. To her delight, both poems were selected by local artists to inspire original artwork. On February 1st, Peyton had the honor of performing her poems at the official event, where she was joined by fellow poets and artists. She was proudly supported by her dedicated teachers—Mrs. Finnigan, Mrs. Scott, Mrs. Goff, Mrs. Baker, and Mrs. Gardner, her Take Flight instructor. As the youngest poet at the event, Peyton's talent stood out, and she’s been invited to return next year. As Leonardo da Vinci once said, “Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen,” perfectly capturing the harmony of her artistic journey.

Happy 100 th Day of School

Leopard Reminder: No School on Monday, January 20th in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. All campus and administration buildings will be closed. We look forward to seeing our students on Tuesday!

Hart Elementary proudly hosted the 4th Grade Spelling Bee, celebrating the hard work and dedication of over 30 participants who prepared diligently for this event. Before the competition began, we had the honor of recognizing Mr. Mark Wheelis, a member of the Lovejoy ISD Board of Trustees, who graciously served as a special guest judge. We are deeply grateful for his support and commitment to our students.
Congratulations to our outstanding winners: Arianna (1st place), Evelyn (2nd place), and Dylan (3rd place). Hart Elementary is incredibly proud of all our participants for their effort and achievement!

First-grade students delved into the slip and score method in Art today as they worked on creating clay food sculptures. Ms. Armstrong used student volunteers to model the technique, demonstrating how to properly apply it. Following the demonstration, students practiced the method with their own clay while Ms. Armstrong guided them through the process.

Kindergarten practiced their inference skills today by predicting the message the author was conveying during their shared reading lesson. Students engaged in turn-and-talk discussions with their reading partners to share their inferences. Later, they applied this reading skill during both independent and buddy reading time.

Kindergarten kicked off their new reading unit with excitement! Students learned they will be using their "superpowers," such as pointer power and snap word power, to practice reading every day. Ms. Super Power made a special appearance to sing a song and introduce some of the fun activities they will explore during this unit.

During their science block, 2nd-grade classes invited Ms. Hicks, the MTSS lead, to teach them how to use sketch notes to process informational text. The lesson centered on understanding how erosion impacts Earth’s landforms. As Ms. Hicks conducted a read-aloud, students actively created sketch notes in their science journals to visualize and discuss how wind and water contribute to erosion. Through partner sharing and their completed sketches, students demonstrated their ability to explain and illustrate the causes and effects of erosion by the end of the lesson.

Hart students and staff did a great job during this mornings fire drill.
Gingerbread frenzy as Kindergarten searched the premises of Hart Elementary. This silly Gingerbread disrupted recess and made appearances in different classrooms.

4th grade students are working on inferencing and text evidence to support their thinking in reading. Students were working in partnership to identify text evidence as they read a portion of their mystery, as Ms. Baker listened in on their discussions. Together, they took their text evidence to quickly jot down if it supported the suspect in an innocent or guilty way. The dialogue and high levels of thinking that were occurring was amazing to watch.

Hart staff and students kicked off the week PJ style.
